Mallorca: An Island Escape
I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Mallorca more than once, so the recommendations in this post are based on multiple trips. Although I’ve always stayed in Palma, my last visit included renting a car to explore other parts of the island. If I could recommend only one thing, it would be this: explore the island as much as you can. It is absolutely beautiful.
Palma
Location – When it comes to choosing where to stay in Palma, you can’t go wrong as long as you avoid staying too far out. Anywhere near the sea (my personal preference) or the city centre is ideal. I particularly enjoyed staying on the beachfront of Playa de Palma, as strolling along the seafront with those gorgeous views was a highlight. There are plenty of hotels to choose from along the beach.
Restaurants
Mar de Nudos – I went here for a late lunch, and WOW, it was my favourite meal in Palma. Everything I had was from their Japanese menu, but they also offer a Mediterranean menu, so there’s something for everyone. If you’re into seafood, the tuna tartare and seabass ceviche are must-tries! The restaurant is along the port, offering a beautiful view of the docked yachts. It was quiet when we went for a late lunch, but it gets lively at night, and they have a fantastic cocktail selection.

L’informal Tacos – So good we went back for more! Their dishes mix Mexican cooking techniques with Latin and Asian flavours. The Korea Town Taco was a group favourite, and there’s a huge selection of tacos to choose from. I wasn’t brave enough to try the Iberian lizard taco, but it’s on the menu! It’s great for both lunch and dinner, with an impressive margarita selection. If you’re not in the mood for alcohol, the homemade lemonade is a must-try.

The next two restaurants I went to with a large group for a hen, I must say, both restaurants were fantastic, from the service to the food, both offer different group menu options with alcohol included. Both were happy to cater to a guest’s food allergy without any extra fuss. Whether you’re in a group or not, I highly recommend both:

Mr. Xiao – If you’re craving Chinese cuisine, this is your spot. Just a heads up, if you want the Peking Duck, you need to pre-order it! The sharing dishes were a hit, and the hangover noodles were a standout. I wish I tried more of the sharing bits and dim sum, especially if Mr. Xiao’s angry birds and the fried spicy tuna dim sum are anything to go by!
Bar Abaco – Pop in for a drink here for the experience alone. Opened in 1981, it’s an extravagant bar with floral displays, antique furnishings, and candlelit charm, making you feel like you’ve stepped into a Spanish manor from another era. Their cocktails are amazing, and the atmosphere is unique and unforgettable. They don’t take reservations, but the wait for a table wasn’t long.

Boat Day
Renting a boat for the day is a fun activity and not as expensive as you might think! We booked through Heaven Mallorca and got a beautiful boat that fit six people. It had a table, a space to chill drinks, and speakers. We opted for a skipper, but if you have a boating licence, you won’t need one. The price depends on the boat, whether you need a skipper, the hours you book, and distance travelled (petrol is charged at the end). Returning to the port at sunset was a gorgeous way to end the day.

Beach Clubs
Puro Beach Palma – Located on a rocky peninsula in Cala Estancia, this beach club offers stunning panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and Palma Bay. The food was delicious (my nachos were a 10/10, until a seagull devoured them), and there’s a DJ playing every afternoon, though the vibe remains relaxed. Check their website for special events.

Nikki Beach – Known around the world, Nikki Beach in Mallorca is no different, hosting events almost daily. It’s on the pricier side, but worth it if you get a group bed, which works out well cost-wise. It’s a lively beach club with upbeat music, lots of food and drink options, and they make fresh guacamole in front of you—a no-brainer!
Note: Both Puro Beach Illetas and Gran Folies Beach Club
told us they wouldn’t have any music when we inquired, so it’s worth checking
before booking!
Exploring the Island
Deià – I drove to Deià, a picturesque village in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, offering breathtaking views of both the mountains and the sea. I had a lovely meal at Sebastian, a charming outdoor restaurant illuminated by twinkling lights—it was magical. I wish I’d had more time to explore, and I’d definitely return for a longer visit.
While there, I also visited Ca’s Patro March, a spot that’s on many must-visit lists. They aren’t currently accepting reservations, which makes it a bit tricky to get a table, so I didn’t dine there, but the views were incredible.

Cala del Moro – I took a trip over to the southeast of Mallorca to visit this little hidden cove surrounded by steep cliffs and rugged rocks. The beach itself is quite small, with soft white sand and shallow, crystal-clear turquoise waters perfect for swimming. Since it’s a bit off the beaten path, it’s quieter and less commercialized, with no nearby restaurants or facilities, making it ideal spot to relax. There was a stall there when I went, it was cash only. Cala del Moro is getting busier, especially at peak times, due to word getting out regarding its beauty.
Restaurante Illeta – a stunning waterfront spot located in Camp de Mar, perched on a small islet connected to the mainland by a wooden bridge. The restaurant offers a unique and picturesque setting, surrounded by the crystal-clear waters, you’ve likely seen pictures of it all over social media. The food was delicious, I had fresh grilled squid which I’m always drawn to on a menu, but I tried some of my friends sharing cod rice dish and it was also incredible, I would definitely opt for one of the sharing paella/dry rice dishes if I was to return. We didn’t have a booking, but since they do take walk-ins, we went a bit earlier to secure a table. The only downside is the 1.5-hour time limit on tables, and they do rush you a bit when your time is up, but it’s still worth visiting for the views and the food.

Alcúdia – I visited Playa de Alcúdia for sunrise, a stunning white-sand beach on the northern coast. I walked along the iconic wooden pier, which is peaceful and perfect for watching the sunrise. The water is pristine, and I even saw rays swimming near the pier, so it’s likely a great spot for snorkelling.

Sea Club at Cap Rocat – Offers a sophisticated dining experience set against a stunning backdrop. Located in a picturesque cove, this upscale restaurant boasts panoramic sea views and a stylish, contemporary design. I went for lunch due to my booking getting moved the night before, as a bad storm hit the island. A sunset booking would be ideal – but you need to book far in advance! Cap Rocat is a luxury boutique hotel located in a stunning setting on Mallorca’s southern coast. Set within a former military fortress, the hotel offers a unique blend of historical charm and modern elegance, it’s a really special place. With its emphasis on privacy and exceptional service, Cap Rocat would provide a tranquil and exclusive retreat for a truly memorable stay, I would love to return here and stay and just switch-off!

Mallorca completely won me over with its diverse landscapes, rich culture, and laid-back Mediterranean vibe. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing beach holiday, an active adventure in the mountains, a buzzy trip with friends, or a cultural escape to charming villages, a buzzy trip with friends, this island has something for everyone. It’s perfect for couples, families, or solo travellers eager to explore its hidden gems.
